Emergency services were called to the blaze at 12.39am on Monday at Te Maru Place in Redwood.

A person has died following a fire that engulfed a home and caravan in Redwood on Monday.

Emergency services were called to the blaze at 12.39am on Monday at Te Maru Place.

The person was located in a caravan destroyed by the fire.

Detective Senior Sergeant Colin Baillie said an investigation is underway.

“The death is currently being treated as unexplained,” he said

A scene guard has been in place overnight and Police and Fire and Emergency NZ investigators will be carrying out a scene examination this morning.
