Gareth Green has started as chief executive at New Plymouth District Council.

The latest chief executive has taken the helm at New Plymouth District Council.

Gareth Green, who was previously Taupō District Council chief executive, has officially taken over from Miriam Tarris who was appointed as the interim boss last year on a fixed term contract.

The Taranaki Daily News has requested an interview with Green, with a council spokesperson saying he would be available when a time was clear in his calendar.

Green had worked for the Taupō District Council for the past 17 years, the last six of those as chief executive.

When his appointment was made public in December, Green told Stuff he was ready to do something new.

“I’ve previously worked for New Plymouth District Council, and I’m passionate about that community,” he said.

“There’s some really exciting projects happening there and some challenges we also need to work through, and I’m looking forward to getting stuck into those.”
