Writers are striking across the U.S. — here are the best signs they’re bringing to the picket line

The Writers’ Guild of America (WGA) is officially on strike for the first time in 15 years, and they’ve brought their writing talents to the picket line.

Hundreds of screenwriters and supporters flooded to the Los Angeles and New York headquarters of major media companies in time with the guild’s strike, which kicked off Tuesday afternoon.

The work stoppage was called after negotiations with the group representing major studios and streaming services broke down Monday night. In a statement, the WGA said the studios’ responses were “wholly insufficient, given the existential crisis writers are facing.”

Aside from the chants and snappy shirts, picketers arrived armed with clever, striking and hilarious signs. “I told ChatGPT to write a picket sign and it sucked,” one read. “My pronouns are: Pay/Me,” wrote another.

Meanwhile, TV host and writers guild member Adam Conover made an appearance on CNN Tuesday, during which he lambasted David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery which owns the news network, for making $250,000,000 last year.

“That’s about the same level as what 10,000 writers are asking him to pay all of us, collectively,” Conover said.
