BRAMPTON, Ont. – A female driver is in custody after she allegedly fatally hit a cyclist and attempted to flee the scene by car and on foot in Brampton, Ont.

Peel Regional Police say the woman struck the male cyclist at an intersection in the city northwest of Toronto shortly after 9:30 a.m. on Monday.

Const. Sarah Patten alleges the woman then left the scene in her car, driving on the wrong side of the road before sideswiping another car and coming to a stop.

Patten says the woman, who is in her late 20s or early 30s, then attempted to flee on foot before being located by police a short distance from the scene of the accident.

The cyclist, also in his late 20s or early 30s, was taken to a trauma centre in life-threatening condition, where he later died of his injuries.

The driver has been charged with impaired driving, but Patten says further charges are expected to be laid once police complete their investigation.
