EDMONTON – Holiday shopping was briefly halted at West Edmonton Mall on Saturday following reports of a male with a gun at the sprawling retail facility.

The mall issued a social media post in the afternoon saying it was in lockdown and people should remain in the closest secure location.

The warning was lifted a short time later.

Police say in a news release that the parties involved in the weapons complaint were found and taken into custody, adding charges are pending.

They say no shots were fired and there is no threat to the public.

West Edmonton Mall was also in lockdown in August when three men were injured in what police said at the time was a targeted shooting.
