The Government has launched a new violent extremism research centre, He Whenua Taurikura.
The research centre, being hosted by Victoria University of Wellington, will be directed by Professor Joanna Kidman and Professory Paul Spoonley. It will study ways to prevent and counter violent extremism.
The Royal Commission of Inquiry into the Christchurch mosque terror attacks recommended such a research centre be established in its report, published in December 2020.
Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern is due to speak at a launch event for the research centre at Parliament on Friday afternoon.
