A truck crashed into a storefront on State Highway 2 in Carterton on Wednesday morning.

The main route though Carterton remains closed after a truck crashed into a storefront on Wednesday morning.

Police were notified of reports that a truck and trailer crashing into the front of a shop on High St North in Carterton at 5.55am on Wednesday.

A police spokesperson said the truck driver was not injured, but the store appeared to be damaged in the crash with debris spread across the road.

Waka Kotahi New Zealand Transport Agency announced State Highway 2 between Broadway and Pembroke St was closed due to the crash as of 7.10am.

The transport agency said State Highway 2 would remain closed while engineering assessments were undertaken.

Waka Kotahi urged motorists to expect delays and follow the available detours.
