Aided by a couple of fielding errors at the top of the seventh and final innings, the Huia Chiefs scored a crucial run.
The Huia Chiefs men had a tight win over Blue Sox in the latest round of the club softball competition.
Huia Chiefs won 11-10 in hot conditions at Colquhoun Park on Saturday, in a seven-innings game.
Blue Sox made a good start, scoring four runs in the first inning and another two in the second.
But Huia replied with one in the first and five in the second to level it at 6-all.
It was level 9-all after three innings and 10-all after four.
But at the top of the seventh and final inning, and aided by a couple of fielding errors, the Chiefs scored one run.
The Blue Sox could not reply in their final turn at bat.
In Thursday’s night’s game, an understrength Linton Sentinels had no answer against Dodgers, going down 16-0.
In the premier women’s games on Saturday, the improving Linton Zephyrs gave Huia Tigers a workout, before the Tigers prevailed 7-3.
In other games Kingswood Anahera beat Cowgirls 25-5, Dodgers beat Takaro Mystiques 18-3 and, in the closest game of the round, Matua Ma beat Levin United 13-9.
