The Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter was called to a 17-year-old boy with a head laceration after being hit in the head by a rock at a logging operation.

The Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter was called to a logging operation in Seddon after a person was hit in the head by a rock.

Duty pilot Dion Edgar said the crew was called to inland Seddon, south of Blenheim, where a 17-year-old boy sustained a head injury on Wednesday.

“A 17-year-old chap had been hit by a rock and had some reasonable head injuries.”

Edgar said the patient was winched from the logging operation and transported to Nelson Hospital around 10am.

Around 2pm the same day the rescue helicopter was then called to transport the patient to Wellington Hospital.

“They couldn’t take care of his needs here in Nelson, the head injury was a little bit more complicated I think.”

A WorkSafe spokesperson said they had been notified of the incident and were making initial enquiries.
