Krismarlianti Donaldson of Manaia won the first prize in the 2022 Painting Award with her work I will find you in the Taranaki National Art Awards at Opunake.

Manaia artist Krismarlianti Donaldson was awarded first place for her work titled I will find you at the 2022 Taranaki National Art Awards.

The judges awarded two other Taranaki artists highly commended for their works; Aithnia Batchelor, of Waitara, for A beautiful day fishing, and Jasmine Middlebrook, of New Plymouth, for Forces of Nature.

It was the 20th year the awards have run, a huge achievement for the coastal South Taranaki town of Opunake, South Taranaki District Council arts coordinator, Michaela Stoneman said.

Attracting over 350 entries from all over New Zealand, the exhibition showcases diverse works in seven categories, competing for a prize pool of more than $16,000.

The awards attract a range of work and offer an opportunity for emerging artists to show pieces alongside more established artists, Stoneman said.

“The event is a real achievement for the voluntary committee to continue to secure sponsorship and organise it each year.”

The awards are judged in seven categories, with each offering first and highly commended cash prizes.

Judges for 2022 were Karl Chitham and Leafa Janice Wilson.
