Police are resuming their search Saturday for a fisherman who fell off rocks south of Port Waikato.

The search for a missing fisherman off Waikato’s west coast is continuing Saturday.

A statement said police search and rescue were taking part in “some limited searching today as weather allows”.

“This involves some coastal searching, and also with the assistance of a fixed-wing plane.”

Police were continually assessing the conditions to make the best possible decisions in terms of next steps, the statement said.

“We are also working with the family of the missing man to keep them across what we are doing.”

The search comes after three men were fishing on rocks on Thursday south of Port Waikato when one slipped and fell into the water.

Police were initially called to the area off Pukerewa Rd, Matira, at 3.30pm that day.

A helicopter was dispatched but was later stood down and replaced by a fixed wing aircraft to conduct aerial searches of the area.
