Waka Kotahi advised motorists to follow directions of emergency services.
A police incident has closed part of State Highway 1 near Taupiri, north of Hamilton.
Waka Kotahi said it had been alerted of a police incident on Monday and the SH1B/Gordonton Rd roundabout northbound was closed around 4.30pm.
In a tweet, Waka Kotahi advised motorists there could be delays and said to follow directions of emergency services.
