A body has been recovered from a vehicle found submerged in a Marlborough river.

Police and Fire and Emergency NZ responded after a report that a vehicle was seen submerged in Te Hoiere Pelorus River, off Kaiuma Bay Rd, about 3 kilometres from Havelock, shortly before 4.30pm on Thursday.

The Police National Dive Squad managed to recover the body from the vehicle late on Friday night.

Police were at the scene again on Friday morning. The narrow and partly unsealed road was closed for much of the morning while the vehicle was recovered.
