Winnipeg’s Petit Socco has been named one of the country’s best new restaurants by Air Canada’s enRoute magazine.

At a gala event in Toronto on Wednesday night, it was revealed Petit Socco had clinched the fifth spot on the top 10 list of Canada’s Best New Restaurants 2023.

Chef Adam Donnelly, formerly of Segovia, and partner Courtney Molaro opened the minuscule 10-seat eatery on Stafford Street last August.

“It is incredible to be among these amazing restaurants and teams of people giving it our best to share something special with our guests,” read a post on the restaurant’s Instagram account. “To all of our guests who have graced our tables an immense thank you, we are here because of you.”

Donnelly’s pork belly and nectarine panzanella was also named dish of the year by enRoute, which has been doling out the national restaurant awards for more than two decades.

The top 10 restaurants were selected from a longlist of 100, which also included Winnipeg’s Bar Accanto, a small wine and tapas lounge connected to St. Boniface fine dining spot Nola.

The selections were made by food critic Amy Rosen, who also authored Canada’s Best New Cookbook — a collection of recipes from restaurants that made previous top 10 lists.
