A person has died, and another was taken to Timaru Hospital, following a single vehicle crash at a private property in South Canterbury on Tuesday.
Emergency services were alerted to the incident about 7.35am, which involved a vehicle, at a private property off Backline Rd in the Waimate District.
“One person has sadly died following the incident. Police are providing the person’s family with support,” a police spokesperson said.
Another person was taken to Timaru Hospital in a moderate condition, they said.
The death will be referred to the coroner. Police also confirmed the death was not a workplace incident.
St John spokesperson Gerard Campbell said they sent one ambulance and a first response unit to the crash.
“One patient was taken to Timaru Hospital (by ambulance) in a moderate condition,” Campbell said.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesperson Simon Lyford said fire crews from Washdyke and St Andrews responded to the single vehicle crash on a private property off Backline Rd about 7.36am on Tuesday.
