Firefighters have been alerted to a house fire in South Taranaki early Monday morning by a passer-by.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand central communications shift manager Alison Munn said they were called to the blaze at a Rowan Rd property in Kaponga around 6.20am after a passer-by called it in.

“We are on the scene now and we have four trucks and two tankers on scene,” Munn said at 7am.

“When we arrived the house was well involved.”

Munn said all occupants of the house were located

“It is too early to tell at this stage how the fire started and where it originated from,” Munn said.

At 4.18pm firefighters returned to the property to put out residual, smouldering flames that had started to burn.

Only one crew from Kaponga attended and left soon after, Munn said.
