It’s now the “Palmy” conference and function centre with bright green branding.
Palmerston North’s Main St conference and function centre is the latest city council facility to turn green.
As part of routine maintenance involving a paint job, the building has been branded with the bright green Palmy logo that was adopted more than two years ago.
Venues manager John Lynch said the need for ongoing, programmed maintenance had prompted the use of the green colour on two walls of the centre.
“As maintenance work is needed, we are updating some colours to bring it in line with the Palmy identity that was rolled out in 2020.

“By having a suite of key colours, it clearly demonstrates what buildings are funded by our ratepayers.”
Changing the colours when maintenance was already due meant there was no additional cost.
Lynch said the council was deliberately phasing in the fresh branding when work was needed anyway, so it did not add costs for the community.
Over time, more and more buildings, playgrounds and signs would be updated to incorporate the Palmy brand and colours.
The Palmy brand was unveiled by former city council chief executive Heather Shotter in 2020.
At that time, she said about $50,000 had been spent on the design – money which would be recouped as no more money would need to be spent on designs for branding of other city council signs, vehicles and buildings.
The colloquial Palmy name has had more than its share of detractors.
