Man appears in court following car chase in Timaru

A 44-year-old man appeared in court on Friday morning facing charges related to a police car chase in Timaru on Thursday.

Raymond John Mosley, of Rangiora, made no plea to seven charges when he appeared in the Timaru District Court before Judge Jim Large.

Four of them related to a car chase on State Highway 1 and the Selwyn St and Pages Rd areas of Timaru.

Mosley is facing charges of reckless driving, failing to stop while exceeding the speed limit, possessing a knife in Wilson St and possessing methamphetamine, in relation to the incident in Timaru.

The other three charges relate to events alleged to have occurred in Waimate and Christchurch dating back to October 21. They are: Failing to remain stopped for police in Christchurch; assault on a person in Waimate; and stealing a Toyota Camry car in Christchurch.

Mosley made no application for bail and was remanded in custody. Judge Large said he expected pleas at his next appearance on November 29.

On Thursday, police said two people had been arrested following the chase, but only one person appeared in court on Friday.
