Hip-hop artist Ladi6 will headline matchday two of Rugby World Cup at Northland Events Centre.

Ladi6 is the latest star to be added to the stellar entertainment lineup for the looming women’s Rugby World Cup, which kicks off this Saturday in Auckland.

The 39-year-old hip-hop artist – known for hits such asDiamonds’ andLike Water’ will headline matchday two at Northland Events Centre on Sunday, October 9.

She joins the already announced Rita Ora, who will perform at the opening ceremony on October 8 ar Eden Park ahead of a triple header that culminates with the Black Ferns against the Wallaroos.

Ora – married to Kiwi film-maker Taika Waititi – will take the stage after Fiji and England’s match, then again at halftime of New Zealand’s contest with Australia.

Organisers are hoping to set the world record crowd for a women’s rugby match.

LAdi6’s fellow Kiwi artists Shapeshifter and Benee will also perform at Een Park for the semifinals and final respectively.

She said she couldn’t wait to “be part of this amazing moment as we celebrate our wāhine toa taking to the field in the women’s Rugby World Cup”.

The Black Ferns are playing in their first Rugby World Cup on home soil in October and November.

“I have always loved my time in Te Tai Tokerau and can’t wait to party with our Northland whānau!”

Tournament director Michelle Hooper said she was “excited” to add Ladi6 to the lineup and expected the remaining tickets to sell out fast.

“I have always loved her music and am sure her performance is going to make this an unforgettable event at Northland Events Centre to kick-off four action-packed match days in Whangārei.”

The second matchday of the tournament in Whangarei features another triple-header, with the USA taking on Italy, Japan up against Canada and Six Nations rivals Wales and Scotland locking horns in the later game.

The Rugby World Cup will run from October 9-November 12. It is the first time the women’s event has been staged in the southern hemisphere.

The 26 matches involving 12 teams will be played at three stadiums: Eden Park, Waitākere Stadium and Northland Events Centre.
