Two people have been arrested and nearly half a million dollars worth of drugs seized after an armed police raid in Christchurch.
Two firearms – a pistol and a rifle – were also lifted by police during the raid.
The armed offenders squad executed a search warrant on Saturday night at a Lyndhurst Crescent address in Aranui, where officers uncovered a kilogram of methamphetamine and two firearms.
Detective Inspector Scott Anderson said the methamphetamine had an estimated street value of $400,000 to $450,000.

This was without calculating the inevitable social harm often caused through further crimes committed by those under the influence of the drug, something seen often by police, he said.
“The actions of police in locating such a large quantity of methamphetamine has stopped significant community harm.”
Finding the firearms and taking them off the street also greatly helped in keeping the community safe, Anderson said.
Stuff understands the firearms were a pistol and a rifle.
A 27-year-old man and 23-year-old woman were due to appear at the Christchurch District Court on Monday morning.
The pair face charges of possession of methamphetamine for supply and firearms possession. They will appear in court again later this month.
