A build up traffic on the southern motorway is causing motorists delays following a crash on the Southern Motorway.

Several crashes across Auckland’s motorway network delayed motorists on their Monday evening commute.

According to Waka Kotahi, a crash on State Highway 16 is blocking the left lane after the Newton Rd off-ramp, heading into the city. Motorists are advised to merge right with care.

Meanwhile, build-up of traffic on the Southern Motorway delayed motorists after two crashes near the Mt Wellington Highway off-ramp.

A crash blocked the right northbound lane prior to the off-ramp. Police responded to the three-vehicle car crash at about 3.30pm.

There are traffic delays on the North Western and Southern Motorways following crashes on Monday evening.

Part of the motorway was closed while the scene is cleared, and only one lane was open for use.

“Motorists are advised that traffic will be slow in the area for some time,” a spokesperson said.

According to St John ambulance service, four people were taken to Auckland Hospital.

Southbound traffic was also affected by a crash on the South Eastern Highway.

Waka Kotahi reported that queues had been building up on the Southern Motorway, approaching the South Eastern Highway off-ramp.
