Four people have been injured in a two-vehicle crash on State Highway 80 near Ben Ohau in the Mackenzie District that temporarily blocked road access to Aoraki/Mt Cook on Thursday morning.

A police spokesperson said the crash was reported at 9am and the highway was blocked in both directions while emergency services were on scene but was later reopened.

A Hato Hone St John spokesperson said they assessed and treated four people at the scene.

Three people had minor injuries. A fourth person with moderate injuries was taken to a local medical centre.

A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesperson said crews from Twizel and Lake Tekapo helped at the scene.
