Five fire crews have contained a house fire on Queen Charlotte Dr on Wednesday morning.

Five fire crews, two tankers and a helicopter were called to a house fire in Whenaunui Becks Bay in Marlborough on Wednesday morning.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand received multiple calls about the blaze along Queen Charlotte Drive just after 8am.

All occupants inside the house were evacuated on arrival.

Initially, two crews from Picton and one from Linkwater were dispatched. While en route, they requested additional tankers from Blenheim and Rarangi and a helicopter, Fire and Emergency spokesperson Simon Lyford said.

When crews from Picton and Linkwater arrived, they found the house fully involved in a 20m by 20m blaze located on the second storey and spreading to the roof, Lyford said.

A second alarm was raised and further crews from Blenheim and Havelock were sent to the scene.

Lyford said five fire crews battled the fire and the two tankers and helicopter were stood down on the way to the scene.

The fire was contained at 9.30am and was extinguished by 10.19am.

Fire crews have stayed at the property to dampen down the area and a fire investigator was heading to the scene.
