Fire crews are dampening down hot spots after being called to extinguish an area of tree stumps at a rural property in Foxton on Wednesday.

A Fire and Emergency spokesperson said when they arrived, they found tree stumps “smouldering” in an area of 100m by 10m, and rural appliances were called to assist.

Fire and Emergency responded about 4.15pm, and were still in attendance shortly after 6pm, dampening down hot spots, and working with the owner of the property.

The spokesperson said they were unsure at this stage what caused the fire.
