A caravan fire at a New Plymouth property was quickly curtailed on Saturday afternoon.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ) was alerted to the blaze on Paynters Ave, Strandon, at 2.45pm.

Two fire trucks and the attending crews were sent to the address to put out the blaze, and had left by 3.15pm, a FENZ media statement said.

A singed mattress could be seen on a grassed area by the burnt-out caravan, and its canvas screen was also badly damaged.

The cause of the fire is unknown.
