Calgary police identify 31-year-old man as city’s first homicide of 2023

CALGARY – A 31-year-old Calgary man has been identified as a victim of the city’s first homicide of the year.

Officers responded to reports of shots being fired at about 3:40 a.m. Sunday in the community of Ranchlands in northwest Calgary.

Police say they found two men suffering from gunshot wounds.

One man was declared dead at the scene and the other was sent to hospital in serious condition — although police say he has now been released.

Police say an autopsy on the man who died has confirmed his identity as Stallone Leonard Mark Clare.

They say the shooting is not believed to be random, but add that the investigation is ongoing.
