Black Panther star Carrie Bernans has revealed she was left hospitalised and suffered horrific injuries after an alleged hit-and-run incident made headlines in New York City.

Stuntwoman and actress Bernans, 29, was hit by a car during the “traumatic incident” in the Big Apple and lucky to have survived – after a man reportedly “ran into multiple cars before hitting a food stand that her friend and her were walking near”.

Her mother confirmed the shock news in an Instagram post on Bernans’ page, which was posted on her behalf.

“She’s still in so much pain and can’t answer calls at this time, but appreciate the messages. This was a traumatic incident,” her mother wrote in the post.

“She’s in so much pain but healing… It ended up knocking her unconscious and pended her under the stand. She was under it unaware of what was happening.”

Detailing the extent of her injuries, her mother added: “She have a few broken bones, fractures, and chipped teeth but thanking God that she’s alive.”

“Nine people were injured in his attempted escape from the hit and run, including three police officers. Police caught him shortly after and arrested him. Amidst the chaos of the New Year’s incident, she’s holding onto an immense sense of gratitude for life itself.”

She added: “P.S., her son was not there. He was safe in a warm hotel room with family. And thank you to all who reached out.”

In another video, Bernans thanked fans for their support and said she was in “so much pain”.

According to People, police confirmed to the publication a police foot chase took place after a physical assault occurred between a male driver and a female passenger.

“The male then struck a food cart and two 39-year-old female pedestrians, a 31-year-old female pedestrian, and a 29-year-old female pedestrian,” a police statement read.

The statement confirmed three other people were injured in the incident and the “operator” was “placed into custody”.

According to Fox5, eight people including three police officers were injured in the incident and the driver was in hospital.

Bernans is best known for her work in Black Panther and Avengers: Endgame.
