A spike in break-ins and thefts in South Taranaki has triggered a warning for residents to secure their property and be vigilant.

A rise in the number of reported break-ins into sheds, garages and commercial properties prompted police to issue a statement on Wednesday morning.

“Offenders are predominately targeting quad bikes and trailers,” the statement said.

A police database showed South Taranaki had 45 break-ins and burglaries in February and March.
