Hungry for work? KFC stores in Invercargill have reduced their opening hours due to staffing shortages.

Staffing shortages have ruled out late-night feasts at KFC stores in Invercargill.

Signs on the store windows at the two city restaurants say their temporary opening hours are 11am to 9pm.

It’s understood the stores previously opened between 10am and 11pm or midnight, depending on the days of week.

A KFC spokesperson confirmed staffing levels were the reason for the reduced hours.

“Like many businesses around New Zealand we have been experiencing staff shortages and this has affected trading hours at KFC Invercargill South and KFC Dee Street.”

Despite this, the team was working hard to “deliver everyone’s favourite chicken”.

The fast food restaurant was by no means alone in struggling to find staff, with many Southland industries in the same predicament.

In recent months there have been reports of shortages in various industries in Southland, including the health, meat processing and hospitality sectors.

The KFC worker shortage follows the Invercargill stores being unable to open for a short period in 2020 due to an unprecedented demand for its chicken.

And in 2009 the KFC marketing manager was left red-faced when the south Invercargill store ran out of cooked chicken.

“If they run out of chicken at 8pm they should probably close at 8pm and stop getting our hopes up,” one annoyed KFC fan said at the time.
