There have been 9975 new community cases of Covid-19 reported across the country in the past week.
The Ministry of Health’s weekly Covid-19 update covered the period from Monday, September 26, to Sunday, October 2, when there were 1422 new daily cases, on average – up slightly on the week prior.
There were 9809 new community cases reported last week – with a daily community case average of 1398.
As of midnight on Sunday, there were 111 people in hospital with the virus, including seven in an intensive care or high dependency care unit.

Head of the Public Health Agency, Dr Andrew Old, says Covid-19 “is not over” at the final pandemic briefing, despite the statement made by US President Joe Biden.
To date, there have been 2038 deaths attributed to Covid-19 since the pandemic began, the ministry said. The rolling seven-day average of deaths attributed to Covid was one.
The ministry reported an additional 33 deaths in people with Covid-19 over the past week – eight of which were attributed to Covid-19.
Six had Covid-19 as the underlying cause of death; two had the virus as a contributing factor; 18 were determined not to be Covid-19 and seven were not available.
Of the 33 deaths reported, two were in their 40s, three in their 50s, two in their 60s, three in their 70s, 15 were in their 80s and eight were aged over 90. Eleven were women and 22 were men.
Thirteen were from the wider Auckland area, two were from Waikato, two from Bay of Plenty, one was from Lakes, one from Hawke’s Bay, two were from Taranaki, two from MidCentral, one was from the Wellington region, six were from Canterbury, one was from South Canterbury, and two were from Southern.
