Good looking people have distracted some drivers and caused them to crash.
You’re driving along and see someone so beautiful you can’t take your eyes off them.
Is it love at first sight?
No, it’s dangerous and it’s causing car crashes.
AA Insurance’s latest motor survey estimates 267,000 people have been in a car crash in the past year in New Zealand. Of those surveyed who crashed, 34% said distraction was the cause. Of this group, 3% said the source of their distraction was good-looking pedestrians, drivers or other passengers.
AA Insurance head of motor claims, Beau Paparoa, spoke on the Newsable podcast about attractive people’s link to crashes.
“That was a really interesting stat to come through, relatable to a lot of people. The honesty is great, and it feels really naughty talking about it. But, it’s a distraction along with many other distractions, so it’s really important for us to kind of call it out”.

On a more serious note, Paparoa spoke about the 17% year-on-year increase in motor claims involving car collisions.
The survey found other causes of driver distraction included other road users, which 17% said was the source of distraction leading to their crash. Other distractions were texting or using mobile phone data (4%), children (3%), and changing the radio station or music (2%).
