A 24-hour heavy rain warning is in place for Wellington.
Wellingtonians could be in for a wet 24 hours, with a heavy rain warning in effect through until Thursday night.
MetService warned the region, including Horowhenua and the Tararua Range, could expect between 100 to 130mm of rain to fall until 9pm on Thursday.
Peak rates of 15 to 25mm of rain per hour could cause surface flooding, slips, and rising streams and rivers.
The rain is expected to continue on Friday, easing to showers heading into the weekend.
It comes as a northerly airstream brings heavy rain to many regions across Aotearoa until Sunday with MetService urging people to keep up to date as warnings be changed.
