“It never crossed our minds that this could happen to us,” the woman said.
A Hamilton couple is $10.5 million richer after a Lotto win but the pair say they’re not “flashy” – though it’s strange acting normal.
The pair, who wish to remain anonymous, were initially oblivious that they were the lucky winners, but collected their Powerball winnings a week after the lucky numbers were released.
“Sometimes it takes me weeks to check my tickets – so one week was actually quite quick for me!,” the woman said.
“It never crossed our minds that this could happen to us,” the woman said.

“I closed the app and opened it again – but the message was still there! We weren’t jumping up and down. We were just in total shock.”
The winning $10.5 million Powerball First Division ticket was sold on MyLotto and the draw was on Wednesday 22 February.
Once the Hamilton couple realised their luck, they called Lotto NZ to confirm they were the winners.
Their once normal lives were turned inside out.
“I said to the woman on the phone, ‘I think I won $10.5 million,” the woman laughed.
“It was strange going to work and acting like everything was normal,” the woman said. “We haven’t quite grasped the enormity of it yet.”
The couple weren’t “flashy” people.
Some of the cash prize would go on their mortgage while some would be divvied out to several charities they said.
Another portion would be used to take care of their parents.
For the couple it was about returning favours to those who had helped them over the years.
