One person is in critical condition after being injured in one of a trio of fires that broke out in about a three-hour period Tuesday morning.
Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service said they rushed to a fire in a three-storey apartment building in the 700 block of Sargent Avenue at about 9 a.m.
Firefighters helped residents evacuate.
Paramedics rushed one resident to hospital in critical condition.
The fire was brought under control within the hour and the cause is under investigation.
About two hours earlier, at 6:44 a.m., firefighters responded to a blaze in a one-storey vacant house in the 400 block of Stella Avenue.
Firefighters had to use aerial ladders to attack the blaze from outside because the building didn’t appear structurally safe enough to enter.
The fire was under control at 8:35 a.m., and no one was injured. Firefighters said the building suffered extensive damage and will be demolished.
The third fire broke out in a single-storey house in the 300 block of Ferry Road just before 10 a.m.
Firefighters saw smoke coming out of the house and attacked the blaze from inside, getting it under control in under an hour.
No one was home at the time and there were no injuries.
The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental and related to the electrical system.
