Nelson College edged for South Island rugby title

Nelson College fell just short of back-to-back South Island secondary schools rugby titles after losing 29-26 to Dunedin’s John McGlashan College in the final.

Before a large and vocal home crowd of students and supporters on Saturday, Nelson College came back from a 22-12 half-time deficit, but could not quite peg back the unbeaten southern visitors.

Despite the loss, it’s been a remarkable season for Nelson after a large number of players from the South Island title-winning side last year left the school.
